The BMW S 1000 R is powered by 999cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 162.26 bhp and a torque of 114 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, BMW S 1000 R comes up with anti-locking braking system. This S 1000 R bike weighs 199 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 16.5 liters. The BS6-compliant BMW S1000R naked roadster has been launched in the Indian market to rival the likes of Ducati Streetfighter V4 and the Kawasaki Z H2. The motorcycle is available in three variants “ Standard, Pro, and Pro M Sport in the Indian market.
The BS6-compliant 999cc, inline-four, liquid-cooled motor produces 165bhp of power at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 9,250rpm. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The claimed fuel economy stands at 6.2-litre/100km or 16.12kmpl.
The latest iteration of the BMW S1000R gets a complete makeover for 2021. The styling revisions include an updated front fascia that uses an all-new LED headlight instead of the asymmetric styling theme on its predecessor. The new headlight design resembles the units on the 2021 BMW G310R and the F900R. The 2021 model also gets a sharper design for the fuel tank side panels, tank centre cover, side panels in R shape, radiator shrouds, and the belly pan. At the back, the naked roadster uses the S1000RR inspired tail-end.
The feature list, too, has received upgrades for 2021, and the S1000R BS6 comes equipped with full-LED lighting as standard. The cockpit receives an upgrade in the form of a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch TFT display instead of the semi-digital unit on its predecessor. The standard model weighs 199kg while the Pro M Sport variant is 194kg heavy.
BMW Motorrad will offer three colours for the motorcycle “ Racing Red, Hockenheim Silver Metallic, and Light White/M Motorsport (only with Pro M Sport).
The electronic rider aids include three modes (Rain, Road, and Dynamic), anti-hopping clutch, traction control system, ABS Pro, and Hill Start Control as standard. Additional features such as Riding Modes Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), engine drag torque control MSR, engine brake control, and Power Wheelie control are available on the Pro and Pro M Sport variants.
The premium variants also benefit from additional features such as keyless ride, USB charger, heated grips, cruise control, gear-shift assist, adaptive lights, and daytime running lights. The fully-loaded Pro M Sport version further benefits from M endurance chain, M GPS lap trigger, sports silencer, M sport seat, lightweight battery, and carbon wheels.
The suspension setup on the 2021 S1000R includes 45mm upside-down front forks and a mono-shock at the back. The braking duties are performed by 320mm twin discs with four-piston callipers at the front and a single 220mm rotor with a single-piston calliper at the rear.
