The Monster has been in production since 1993, and it has been the most successful model for Ducati since it went on sale. The design brief for the Monster required that it be recognisably a Ducati, but also be accessible to the regular Joe – Ducati supersport models are notably tough on backs and wrists, and the Monster was the perfect model for the Ducatisti who wanted a product from Bologna but didn’t want the high-strung supersport experience. Among the many displacements on offer, the 1200cc Monster sits at the top of the range. It also distinguishes itself from the rest by offering top-quality parts like a single-sided swingarm and radially mounted brake callipers. The Monster 1200 R was launched in 2016, and is the most powerful Monster so far. It uses the same engine that does duty in the Multistrada 1200 and Diavel, and generates significantly more power and torque than the Monster 1200 S. It also sports Ohlins suspension and a slightly wider rear tyre compared to the Monster 1200 S.
