Description

Ducati launched the new Monster 797 in India at Rs 7.77 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). It is now the smallest member of Ducati’s Monster tribe of naked motorcycles. The Ducati Monster 797 made its debut at the 2016 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. Design-wise, it looks like a smaller version of its larger siblings like the Monster 821. It features new LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, while borrowing the LCD instrument panel from the 821. It is offered in three colours – red, white, and black. The Ducati Monster 797 features a one-piece tubular steel trellis frame along with a twin-spar swing arm.

The suspension duties are handled by a 43mm Kayaba USD fork up front, and there is a preload/rebound adjustable Sachs monoshock at the rear. Braking power comes from twin 320mm Brembo brakes with radially mounted four-piston monobloc callipers up front and a single 245mm Brembo disc at the rear with a single piston floating calliper. ABS is standard on the Monster 797. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 20/70 ZR17 Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.Powering the Ducati Monster 797 is a fuel injected 803cc L-twin air-cooled engine. This unit produces 74bhp of power at 8,250rpm and 68.6Nm of torque at 5,750rpm.

This is sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. The Monster 797 Plus is a new variant that gets a fly screen and pillion seat cowl. These are colour coordinated with the fuel tank and front fender. These accessories can also be retrofitted on the standard Monster 797 for around Rs 36,000.Although the 797 is the newest in the Monster range, it is presently also the smallest. It is slotted below the 821 and with a price of Rs 7.77 lakh, it’s almost Rs 3 lakh cheaper than the bigger sibling. It is brought to India as a CBU through the Thailand route and competes with the Triumph Street Triple in our market.
