The Ducati Multistrada has a few updates for the 2018 model year, chief of which is a new engine. It still remains a twin, but it is based on the engine in the XDiavel. The Multistrada 1260s engine displaces “ no points for guessing “ 1262cc from two cylinders. It generates 158bhp and 130Nm. 85 per cent of the torque is available from 3500rpm onward, which is good news for tourers who like to put a lot of luggage onto their Multistrada. The rake angle has been increased slightly, the swingarm is slightly longer and thus the wheelbase has increased as well, which will aid stability. The 1260 is 10kg lighter than the Multistrada 1200, a 5 per cent weight reduction that will help in handling the bike at slow speeds. The base Multi gets an LCD screen for information but the rest of the range gets a TFT colour display. The Pikes Peak edition, when launched, will offer the fetching livery, plus forged aluminium wheels, a Termignoni exhaust and fully (manually) adjustable Ohlins suspension at both ends. The electronics package is as comprehensive as ever: a two-way quickshifter, cornering ABS, eight-level wheelie and traction control, hill hold assist, and cruise control are all on the list. The Ducati Multistrada 1260 has its work cut out since it butts heads with giants such as BMWs R1200 GS and Triumphs Tiger 1200.
