Description

Heros first foray into the 200cc segment is this, the Xtreme 200R. It is Hero Motocorps first dip into the premium segment in a while. The Xtreme 200R has a diamond-type chassis, Heros first indigenous rear monoshock, and an engine that is based on the Achievers 150cc unit. While the engine doesnt offer much in the way of additional tech “ it is carburetted, doesnt have an oil cooler, or fuel injection “ it promises to offer great fuel efficiency and rideability, thanks to its relatively low power figure of 18.2bhp and torque figure of 17.1Nm. It is one of the smoothest in the business, however, and there isnt much need to keep changing gears in the five-speed gearbox. The Xtreme is also the lightest in class at 148kg, which should also help in a great fuel efficiency figure.

There are disc brakes present both front and rear, with the front getting ABS as standard at the time of launch. The instrument cluster has an analogue tachometer. While this is functional, combined with the silver surround, it makes the Xtreme appear very last generation. It doesnt lack for functions, however: dual trip meters and a clock are present in the digital part of the display. However, in the age of programmable shift lights, side stand warning indicators and top speed/lap time recorders, the Xtreme has some catching up to do. However, what Hero has done is deliver value with the Xtreme 200R. Not only is it the lightest in kilos, it is also the lightest on your pocket “ it undercuts the nearest displacement rival, the Apache 200, by a few thousand rupees, while offering ABS as standard.
