Kawasaki India currently sells a wide range of high performance motorcycles which includes street fighter, sports tourer and supersport models. The brand, however, is yet to step into the adventure category of the Indian two-wheeler market. The Versys 1000, which comes from Kawasakis adventure range of motorcycles, is expected to arrive in India soon.Designed to offer a high level of refinement, comfort and reliability over rough grounds, the Versys 1000 gets a 1043cc, in-line 4 engine.
This liquid-cooled unit produces 118bhp of power at 9,000 rpm and a respectable 101Nm of torque at 7,700 rpm. Tuned for good throttle response and strong torque at all rpms, especially in the lower middle range, the engine is very similar to the one Kawasaki uses in the Z1000 naked sports bike. However, in here, the engine delivers a stronger low-mid range with a slightly reduced peak power. Both peak power and torque kick in at a lower rpm than on the Z1000.
The Versys is built around an aluminium twin-tube frame which is lightweight and highly rigid. Being an adventure motorcycle, it gets a windscreen that can be adjusted without any tools and just two knobs. Like most high-end adventure motorcycles, the Versys 1000 also offers different engine maps for full power or low power modes and allows the rider to set power delivery to suit varied riding conditions. The motorcycle gets 300mm front petal discs gripped by 4-piston calipers for strong stopping power and brake feel. Kawasaki says the ABS unit is the same compact lightweight Bosch unit used on the Ninja ZX-10R.Kawasaki India is expected to bring the Versys 1000 to India by mid-2014. The adventure model will be sold as a fully imported motorcycle and will compete with the Ducati Multistrada and the recently introduced Triumph Tiger Explorer.
