The 790 Duke, also known as the Scalpel, is KTMs flagship offering for the Indian market. The street naked borrows the sharp styling and features from its elder sibling, the 1290 Super Duke which is sold by KTM in the international markets. The 790 Duke has aggressive lines along with a minimalistic look that is projected from every angle the bike is perceived. It has KTMs signature split-LED headlamp unit, a full-colour TFT display and a high-set exhaust canister that gives it a hooligan appeal.
Built around a steel trellis frame and aluminium sub-frame, the 790 Duke draws its power from a 799cc parallel-twin unit that has been tuned by KTM to churn out some exciting figures. Mated to a slick six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and bi-directional quickshifter, the engine is capable of pumping out 105bhp and 86Nm. To keep that brute force in check, the 790 Duke come with an array of electric aids which includes lean-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, launch and wheelie control along with riding modes that include a Supermoto mode that turns off ABS at the rear wheel, allowing the rider to get the tail out while cornering.
Cycle parts include premium 43mm WP inverted forks up front and a pre-loaded adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by twin rotors at the front and a single rotor for the rear. KTM offers the 790 Duke in two liveries of orange and black.
Competition wise, the KTM 790 Duke locks horns with other street nakeds like the Triumph Street Triple RS, Suzuki GSX-S750, Yamaha MT-09 and the Ducati Monster 821 in India.
