Honda Poised to Enter India’s E-Scooter Market with Electric Activa

Honda has long been a dominant force in the scooter market in India. However, it has yet to establish a significant foothold in the rapidly growing e-scooter sector. This situation is expected to change within the next three to four months.

For several years, Honda has announced its commitment to developing a series of electric two-wheelers for both the Indian and international markets. Despite these claims, no electric model has been introduced in India to date. In contrast, competitors such as Bajaj and TVS have successfully launched multiple versions of the Chetak and iQube, respectively. These brands currently hold a substantial share of the e-scooter market, a figure that is anticipated to increase as they introduce more budget-friendly options.

The anticipated electric Activa has been in development for several years. However, Honda’s approach, which emphasizes thorough processes over rapid execution, has delayed its release. While the electric vehicle market has experienced significant growth in the past two years, Honda opted to adhere to its established procedures rather than hastily launch the electric Activa, avoiding the fear of missing out.

According to our sources, the Activa Electric is now nearing the final stages of validation, with a production line prepared for its assembly. Test production is set to begin in the coming weeks, with a global unveiling expected around December. Bookings and deliveries are projected to start in February 2025. It appears that Honda is focusing on creating a straightforward electric scooter that prioritizes the overall riding experience and range, although the pricing of the upcoming Activa Electric remains to be seen.
