India’s First Proper Affordable Maxi Scooter Launch Next Week?
Keeway might launch its GT270 maxi scooter along with the K-Lite cruiser on 17th May
Just around a week back, Keeway announced its maiden India debut with the launch of the K-Lite cruiser slated for 17th May and now reports have emerged that the brand will launch its GT270 maxi scooter as well in the country along with the K-Lite.
If reports hold true, India will gets its first proper affordable maxi scooter. The GT270 is powered by a Piaggio-sourced 278.2 cc single cylinder fuel-injected liquid-cooled engine that puts out 19 HP at 6500 RPM and 22.5 Nm at 6000 RPM. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox.
It gets premium KYB suspension setup at both ends with the front getting 35 mm forks. The front wheel gets 240 mm disc while stopping at the rear is by a 220 mm disc.
As far as tires are concerned, the front gets 110/70-R13 tyre and the rear gets 130/70-R13 unit. The scooter’s fuel tank capacity is 9.5 litres.
While Keeway’s roots are in Hungary, it’s currently owned by the famous QJ Group of China that also owns the Benelli brand. The manufacturer has shot a Block-Your-Date invite for its maiden event in the country that’s set to take place next Tuesday.
Keeway is quite popular the world over for its small cruisers, scooters, street bikes, and off-roaders predominantly powered by a 125 cc mill. Their cruiser designs are inspired from the Harley-Davidson roadsters.
When launched, both the upcoming cruiser and the maxi scooter might be sold alongside the Benellis in the current Benelli dealerships.
Though India has 2 scooters – Suzuki Burgman and Aprilia SXR 125 which portrayed as maxi scooters, they aren’t truly maxi ones as they are neither powerful nor have looks and comfort of a pure maxi scooter.
BMW sells its proper maxi scooter C 400 GT in India but its priced close to that of the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX offering no value at least in the Indian context.
The upcoming Keeway scooter should command an affordable price tag somewhere around Rs. 2.5 to 3 lakhs, ex-showroom.
