Kawasaki Set to Unveil New 1,100cc Ninja and Versys Models at EICMA 2023

The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and Versys 1000 models were phased out earlier this year, and it appears that they will be succeeded by new, larger variants at the upcoming EICMA event scheduled for November 5-7.

The new models will feature a 1,099cc engine, replacing the previous 1,043cc unit. Both bikes will produce 134 horsepower; this marks an increase for the Versys while representing a slight decrease for the Ninja. Additionally, torque has been enhanced to 113Nm, with the Ninja benefiting from shorter gearing.

Details regarding the Kawasaki Ninja 1100 and Versys 1100 indicate that the former was originally equipped with a 1,043cc inline-four engine producing 140 horsepower, while the latter generated 117 horsepower. The new 1,099cc four-cylinder engine will deliver 134 horsepower for both models, which is a significant improvement for the Versys and a minor reduction for the Ninja. This adjustment is likely a response to the increasingly stringent Euro emission regulations that the new engine will need to comply with.

To offset the power reduction in the Ninja, Kawasaki has increased the torque from the previous 111Nm to 113Nm with the new engine. This enhancement is further supported by shorter final gearing, attributed to a larger rear sprocket, which is expected to improve both acceleration and overall performance.

While information regarding other modifications to the chassis and features remains limited, it is anticipated that the Ninja 1100 will adopt a refreshed design that aligns with the new aesthetic of the Kawasaki family, similar to the Ninja 500 and Ninja ZX-6R.

EICMA is approaching, and these new Kawasaki models are expected to be unveiled at the event. It is anticipated that Kawasaki India will eventually introduce both models in the market, given the popularity of the Ninja and Versys 1000 at their respective price points.

The introduction of the 1,100cc engine also raises the possibility of a future replacement for the Z900 model. The current Z900 utilizes a 948cc engine, which is a detuned version of the older 1,043cc unit. With the arrival of the new 1,099cc engine, a similar increase in displacement for the mid-size Z model could be on the horizon.

Currently, the only inline-four competitors from Japanese manufacturers are Suzuki’s GSX-S1000GT and GSX-S1000GX, neither of which is available in our country at this time.
