Ola Electric Speeds Ahead with Early Release of Gen 3 Electric Scooters

Leading the Charge in Electric Mobility

Ola Electric is poised to introduce its eagerly awaited Gen 3 platform electric scooters by January 2025, significantly ahead of the previously established timeline. This innovative Gen 3 platform features state-of-the-art advancements, including the integration of the battery as a structural element and a motor design that eliminates the need for magnets. These enhancements are designed to appeal to both mass-market and premium segments, promising a 26% boost in performance and a 20% reduction in costs, thereby transforming Ola’s position in the electric two-wheeler sector.

Unveiling the S2 and S3 Sub-Brands

In a bid to broaden its product lineup, Ola Electric will unveil two new sub-brands under the Gen 3 platform—S2 and S3. The S2 brand will address a variety of consumer needs with three distinct models: the City model for urban travel, the Tourer for extended journeys, and a Sport model aimed at performance aficionados. Conversely, the S3 brand will focus on the premium market, featuring two maxi-scooters, the Grand Adventure and Grand Tourer, which promise enhanced luxury and performance.

Enhancing Efficiency Through Advanced Technology

The Gen 3 platform from Ola incorporates pioneering technology that integrates the battery, magnet-less motor, and other electronic components directly into the chassis. This innovative motor design utilizes magnetized electrical coils in place of permanent magnets, resulting in improved torque and efficiency. By adopting a scalable vertical integration strategy, Ola plans to leverage 4,860 lithium-ion cells manufactured at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu, aligning with its objective of achieving efficient and cost-effective production.

Expanding Market Presence and Distribution Channels

Ola Electric currently commands a notable 30% share of the electric two-wheeler market in India. The company intends to broaden its distribution network from 782 to 2,000 outlets by March 2025 and is set to introduce its Roadster series of electric motorcycles, with deliveries anticipated in the fourth quarter of FY2025. Furthermore, Ola aims to unveil a new product each quarter, with a goal of expanding its product range to encompass 20 different models.

Improving Customer Service Through Network Growth

Recognizing the capacity limitations at its service centers, Ola Electric has successfully addressed 80% of service requests within a single day. To enhance this further, the company launched the ‘Network Partner Programme’ in September, recruiting over 1,000 partners. This initiative, which provides a direct-to-consumer model with minimal capital investment for partners, seeks to promote electric vehicle adoption in India. Ola plans to grow its partner network to 10,000 sales and service locations by the conclusion of 2025.
