The Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) for 2024 has been announced, and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 secured this prestigious title. It was followed by the Triumph Scrambler 400X and the KTM 390 Duke in second and third place respectively.

The Himalayan 450 was part of seven motorcycles that were selected for the final jury round. Among these were bikes from various segments- modern-classic, sports bike, street naked and adventure as well. And interestingly five out of seven contenders were from the 400-500 cc category.

The Indian Motorcycle of the Year is a highly esteemed award, paralleling the Indian Car of the Year, and is adjudicated by a panel of seasoned journalists from prominent magazines and media outlets.

Among the distinguished 14-member jury are Dipayan Dutta, Assistant Editor at Auto Today, and Rahul Ghosh, Associate Editor at Auto Today. Each jury member possesses 25 points to allocate among five worthy contenders, with a cap of 10 points for a single nominee.

Royal Enfield Himalayan

This bike has been extensively updated, including a new Sherpa 450 engine and a new steel twin-spar tubular frame chassis. The new engine now has 39.5bhp and 40Nm of torque.

It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch as standard. Other features include a colour TFT screen with Google Maps and Bluetooth connectivity. Moreover, it also gets switchable ABS and ride-by-wire throttle.

The Himalayan 450 weighs 196kg, a few kgs lighter than the 411 while the fuel tank capacity is increased to 17 litres.

The pricing of the Himalayan is attractively positioned, ranging from Rs 2.69 lakh to Rs 2.84 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). This competitive pricing adds to the allure of the Himalayan, making it an enticing choice for motorcycle enthusiasts looking for both performance and value.

While these prices will stay firm until the 31st of December, 2023, Royal Enfield plans to hike it from the 1st of January, 2024. Buyers are likely to pay up to Rs. 10,000 extra for the all-new Himayalan after the price hike in January 2024.
