Royal Enfield Himalayan Introduces Affordable Tubeless Spoked Wheels

Royal Enfield has introduced optional tubeless spoked wheels for the Himalayan model. With these new wheels, the price range is set between Rs. 2.96 lakhs and Rs. 3.09 lakhs (ex-showroom). The spoked wheels are available as an additional accessory, priced at Rs. 11,000. This enhancement is significant, as it makes the Himalayan the first model from Royal Enfield to feature tubeless spoked wheels.

The rollout of tubeless wheels comes almost a year after the launch of the Himalayan 450, addressing a prevalent concern among adventure riders regarding puncture management. The previous tubed tyres, which were standard on the Himalayan, presented challenges for riders, particularly in sourcing tubes compatible with the bike’s unique tyre sizes. The introduction of tubeless options streamlines the puncture repair process, providing much-needed convenience for riders who had to depend on external solutions.

Although Royal Enfield initially indicated that tubeless spoked rims would be available at the Himalayan’s launch, the feature faced delays due to complications with BIS certification in India. While models exported from India already included this option, domestic versions were postponed, causing dissatisfaction among Indian consumers. With the certification now resolved, the eagerly awaited upgrade has finally been made available in the Indian market.A notable aspect is the pricing: Rs. 11,000 for a set of tubeless rims through the Make It Yours (MIY) platform. Current owners can purchase them through dealerships starting from October 3rd for Rs. 12,424. In comparison to similar offerings from premium brands such as Ducati, BMW, and Honda, which can exceed Rs. 1 lakh, Royal Enfield presents a more economical alternative.

In international markets, tubeless wheels are standard on the Kamet White Himalayan, while other color variants offer them as an option. In India, however, they are exclusively available as an upgrade.

The introduction of tubeless spoked wheels, which are easier to repair and reasonably priced, is advantageous for off-road riders. Despite the delays caused by certification issues, this feature is anticipated to be positively received by Royal Enfield’s adventure riders worldwide.
