Royal Enfield Scram/Hunter ‘450’ Spotted For the First Time

The spied test mule could, most probably, be the upcoming Royal Enfield Scram 450 sitting alongside the Himalayan 450

For the first time, what could be the upcoming 450 cc Royal Enfield Scram or Hunter has been spotted on test. The reason why we couldn’t zero in on its name is because it shares many parts or got inspired from both the upcoming Himalayan 450 as well as the Hunter 350.

For starters, the overall dimensions of the bike and the powertrain look exactly like that of the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 spotted on test multiple times.

The finless liquid-cooled engine, high ground clearance, front disc placement on the left, less knobby tires, sleek indicators, and raised rear fenders are traits seen on the upcoming Himalayan.

But the single piece comfy seat, front telescopic forks (instead of the USD forks on the Himalayan 450), Y-shaped alloy wheels, fork boots, the cluster pod, and the closed grab rails look like they are a direct lift from the upcoming Royal Enfield Hunter.

The upcoming 350 cc Royal Enfield Hunter

So, this 450 cc bike is expected to be either a jacked up version of the Scram or the Hunter. But, we feel it could, most probably, be the upcoming Royal Enfield Scram 450 as the Chennai-based manufacturer already sells the Scram 411 alongside the Himalayan.

If launched in India, this upcoming Scram 450 (for now) would be a tamed down version of the Himalayan also commanding a slightly lower price tag. It could also run on smaller wheels although we couldn’t gauge any difference in the spy shots.

As far as the 450 cc engine goes, the single cylinder expected to deliver 40 HP and 45 Nm. The motor might be teamed to a 6-speed transmission.

This time, the tires used are not full-fledged off-road ones but similar to those seen on the KTM 390 Adventure, meaning they are designed to do high-speed highway duties in addition to hardcore off-roading.

But, unlike the KTM, these tyres could be slapped on to 21-inch front and 17-inch rear rims. As far as features are concerned, Royal Enfield is expected to offer a host of them along with customization, a trend started with the Meteor.

There might be ride-by-wire throttle, riding modes, and switchable ABS too. The tank is expected to be 20-litre in capacity which should compensate range issues due to drop in fuel economy from the bigger engine.

Both the Himalayan and the Scram 450 could be launched by the end of this year, most probably, during the festive time. They could be also be showcased at the EICMA show prior to the launch.
