Thought It Was Fake News? Royal Enfield’s Himalayan 450 Is Real & Got Spied Too

When news about the all-new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 being under development came out earlier this year, many did not believe it and deemed it to be fake news.

Three months have rolled by and now the very first spy shot of the liquid-cooled adventure motorcycle has surfaced online. It has to be said, the bike looks nothing like anything Royal Enfield has produced thus far.

To start with, let us take a look at the design of the motorcycle. Up front, the bike has a high-set ‘beak’ that adventure motorcycles (ADVs) have generally sported. A regular fender sits below as well.

Sporting a circular headlight and a short flyscreen, the recently spied Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 had a tall handlebar and an equally tall instrument gauge that seems to be resting on a metal bar that connects the jerry can holders.

The fuel tank seems to be quite sizeable and is mounted high as well, while the motorcycle also has a split seat setup, upswept exhaust and panniers at the back. The tail section of the bike cannot be seen in this image.

Equipped with a disc brake on each end, the Himalayan 450 has inverted front forks, a rear monoshock and, of course, wire-spoke wheels (21-inch front and 17-inch rear).

Built on a new platform, the Himalayan 450 is powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is expected to displace 450cc and produce around 40 BHP. The exact torque figure is unknown.

For now, Enfield is expected to introduce the motorcycle to the market in the first quarter of 2023. It could be priced from about Rs. 2.70 lakhs (ex-showroom) and thus be less expensive than the KTM 390 Adventure and the BMW G 310 GS.
