The 150cc bike sales in March 2022 witnessed doube-digit degrowth for all models except FZ
The 150cc bike sales figures for March 2022 painted a bad picture about the segment as almost all models have faced double-digit de-growth even at a time when the industry is slowly recovering from the Covid crisis.
As usual, TVS Apache series topped the chart selling over 27k units although the number also includes the 200 cc variant. Apache has been topping the charts ever since Pulsar 125 starting eating the numbers of the bigger 150.
Next in the list was the Yamaha FZ series that includes FZ-FI, FZ-S FI, and FZ-X. The trio managed a combined sales of a whooping 23k units registering a phenomenal 39% Y-o-Y growth when their competitors couldn’t manage even 1% growth. In fact, this is one of the FZ brand’s greatest achievement so far even better than those hey days.
While the FZ series registered 39% growth, Bajaj Pulsar 150 witnessed the exact opposite with a 39% de-growth although it bagged the consolation price of coming third in the list. Pulsar 150’s low sales is mainly attributed to its younger brother Pulsar 125 taking a major share.
After facing a long tussle making customers believe that its 160 cc engine is better than the older 150 cc unit, Honda has, at last, managed to push the Unicorn 160’s sales to 12k units thereby taking the fourth spot. The 160 managed these numbers only in the guise of the Unicorn 150 with the latter silently discontinued.
The Yamaha YZF R15 Series retained their fifth spot as February selling over 5k units followed by Bajaj Avenger 160, and the Hero Xtreme series (includes the 200cc variants). The Avenger 160 has managed to keep the Avenger brand in alive as its bigger brother 220 Cruise couldn’t manage even 100 units.
The Honda Hornet 2.0 and CB 200X bagged the eighth spot followed by the Aprilia SR 160 Series and the Suzuki Gixxer 155 Series. The Gixxers’ performance comes as a shock as even last month the twins sold over thrice this number. But, their sales are expected to pickup pace next month.
