In April 2022, only 4 scooters achieved positive growth in sales, Jupiter performs well
In April, 2022, scooter sales have turned out to be quite disappointing as over 5 top sellers have performed poorly when compared to last year.
In April, 2021, the Covid pandemic began to reach its peak with lockdowns imposed across the country. Yet these 5 scooters – Suzuki Access 125, Honda Dio, Hero Pleasure Plus, Hero Destini 125, and TVS Scooty Pep Plus couldn’t even surpass their last Covid numbers this year.
As usual Honda Activa took the number 1 position selling over 1.63 lakh units with a growth of 49 percent. Then came the TVS Jupiter which bagged over 61k unit sales. It must be noted that maximum sales were contributed by the 110 cc variants for both these scooters.
Though Suzuki Access came third, its numbers have gone down massively. During the 2020s and 21s, the Access used to clock over 55k units. On some months, it even overtook the Jupiter to become the country’s second best selling scooter.
But, Access’ low numbers can be attributed to the entry of Suzuki Avenis which is already among the top 10 sellers beating the older Burgman Street. Though Access won’t regain its hey day sales, it’s expected to settle on better numbers in the coming months.
The moto scooters – TVS Ntorq and Honda Dio took the next 2 spots. Dio continues to lose sales every month and direly needs an update.
Hero Pleasure Plus and the latest entrant, Suzuki Avenis, took the next spots. Looking at the pace with which Avenis is growing, it might soon displace Pleasure and Dio for the fifth place.
Suzuki Burgman Street, Hero Destini 125, and TVS Scooty Pep Plus took the last 3 positions. Burgman has recorded a marginal 11 percent growth.
