What it feels like to ride a 13 lakh rupee BMW scooter on Indian roads [Video]
At a time when electric scooters are making all the right noises in the Indian two-wheeler industry (pun intended), BMW has hit the ball out of the park by introducing its middle-weight maxi-scooter, the C 400 GT in India. The new BMW C 400 GT is a performance-oriented luxury maxi-scooter, which at almost Rs 13 lakh on-road price, now ranks as the most expensive scooter in India. BMW has positioned the C 400 GT in a very niche space, which makes it a scooter only for a few lucky and rich ones. Here’s a video from the YouTube channel ‘Bike With Girl’, which explains various virtues of the BMW C 400 GT.
Design-wise, the BMW C 400 GT has a premium European design with large and snazzy-looking body panels giving it a very unique road presence. The huge fairing at the front accommodates wide-looking all-LED headlamps and comes with a large transparent windscreen at the top of it. The side panels of the scooter come integrated with vertically-laid LED turn indicators.

Unlike traditional scooters which we have seen in India to date, the BMW C 400 GT comes with a central spine running in the middle of the floorboard, which accommodates a 12.8-litre fuel tank within it. The scooter comes with roomy split seats, which hide a large 31-litre storage compartment beneath it. This storage space is divided into two segments, with the larger one called ‘BMW Flexcase’ capable of accommodating a full-face helmet. At the back, the C 400 GT comes with a wide and edgy looking clear lens LED tail lamp cluster and split pillion grab rails.
The BMW C 400 GT features keyless operation for ignition and opening and closing operations of the fuel tank lid and seat. Below the handlebar, the scooter comes with two separate small storage compartments on either side, with the right-side one housing a USB charger and a 12V charger. The scooter also has a large and cool-looking 6.5-inch full-TFT instrument console, which also supports Bluetooth connectivity.
It is the large dimensions and alien-like styling of the BMW C 400 GT which grabs a lot of attention wherever it goes. At the same time, the large dimensions of the scooter don’t play foul when it comes to handling. The presenter also explains that the scooter feels easy to ride, comfortable and fast while on the go, while the brakes also do a fine job in bringing it to a halt.
Comes with a liquid-cooled engine
Powering the BMW C 400 GT is a four-stroke, water-cooled, 4-valve, 350cc engine, which pumps out 34 PS of maximum power and 35 Nm of peak torque output. The suspension combination of the C 400 GT includes 35mm telescopic forks at the front and a double aluminium swing-arm with double spring struts with adjustable preload at the back. The scooter rides on 120/70 R15 front and 150/70 R14 rear tyres, while it gets dual 265mm discs at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear for braking.
