Yamaha Discreetly Teases YZF-R7 & MT-09, What’s Cooking? – [Video]
Yamaha YZF R7 and MT 09 could be launched in India soon, might become the company’s first BS-6 performance bikes
Yamaha YZF R7 and MT 09 might be launched in India soon thereby becoming the Japanese maker’s first BS-6 complaint performance bikes in the country. The company has discreetly teased both the bikes in its latest ‘The Call of the Blue’ campaign TVC.
The TVC, which runs for over 2 minutes, has both the bikes in action sporting temporary number plates given by Tamil Nadu government. So, they might have been rolled out from or imported to Yamaha’s Chennai plant.
The revealed performance bikes go in tandem with the company’s earlier update to launch such machines in India before the central government’s OBD-2 regulations come into force on 1st April, 2023.
But, unlike Suzuki which assembles the Hayabusa in India taking the CKD route, at least for now, all of Yamaha’s upcoming performance bikes will take the CBU route, as per the company, thereby attracting huge taxes.
The Yamaha YZF-R7 super sport made its global debut just last year. Based on the naked MT-07, its 689 cc straight twin engine churns out 72.4 HP at 8750 RPM and 67 Nm at 6500 RPM. The engine has been developed based on Yamaha’s Crossplane Concept.
The MT-09, on the other hand, is a sporty naked bike that produces 117 HP and 93.6 Nm from its straight triple 890 cc engine.
