2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP
Just a couple of days after the launch of the 2024 Yamaha MT-09, the new Yamaha MT-09 SP has been launched, with the kind of higher specs you might expect.
For a start, the electronics are beefed up with the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) gaining additional track-based settings allowing for tunability of the engine’s characteristics as well as of the intervention level of the different electronic assists, such as traction control, and the Slide Control System.
As with the MT-09, the MT-09 SP will come with three standard riding modes in 2024 – Sport, Street, and Rain – and will have space for two custom settings to be set up by the rider, but in addition to that, the SP will gain four Track modes, all of which will also be customisable by the rider.

The customisable Track modes allow for tuning of the Engine Brake Management (EBM) through two settings, and Brake Control (BC), and allows for the disengagement of ABS at the rear brake.
Either the bike’s five-inch TFT dashboard – which gains the ‘Track’ theme for the MT-09 SP – or the Yamaha MyRide app can be used to tune the electronic settings.
The SP also gains mechanically compared to the standard bike, with Brembo Stylema callipers and adjustable suspension at both ends – a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coated 41mm KYB front fork (rebound, compression, preload adjustment), and Ohlins monoshock (rebound and compression adjustment).

Both front and rear suspension also feature a higher spring rate compared to standard, while the swingarm on the SP is constructed using brushed aluminium.
Yamaha’s Smart Key System is also present on the 2024 MT-09 SP, becoming the first high-performance naked from Yamaha to utilise the system.
