Yamaha MT-15 2.0 launched in India
Just a month after discontinuation, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha has launched the second generation of its naked streetfighter motorbike MT-15 dubbed as the MT-15 Version 2.0. The newest generation of the highly anticipated model from Yamaha has been launched at a price of Rs 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and will come available in four colours which will be Cyan Storm, Racing Blue, Ice Fluo-Vermillion, and Metallic Black.
Under the zealous brand strategy from Yamaha Motorcycles in India called ‘The Call of the Blue’, the latest iteration of MT-15 has been given a refresh and a few new features. Although the bike in terms of design looks pretty similar to the discontinued model. It continues to boast the same Bi-Functional LED Headlight with LED Position Lights, high-raised LED Tail-light, along with the familiar muscular bodywork, elevated tail section and a side-slung upswept exhaust muffler.
However, the bike now features an anodised golden colour inverted front fork with 37mm inner tubes, with the lower end (un-sprung) being light and the upper end (sprung) with thick outer tubes bolted to the chassis for higher rigidity. The naked sports bike also features a MotoGP-inspired Aluminium swingarm which replaces the stock box-section swingarm. According to Yamaha, this improves the stability in corners and under heavy braking. The MT-15 Version 2.0 weighs in at just 139kg and features Yamaha’s innovative Delta Box frame, which the company claims provides an advantage in terms of handling.

The MT-15 Version 2.0 in terms of electronics includes a newly designed, full digital LCD cluster with a customisable animated text, as well as a gear shift, gear position, and VVA indicator. The bike also comes with Yamaha’s proprietary Y-Connect app which connects via Bluetooth and enables the LCD cluster to display calls, e-mails, and SMS Alerts, as well as smartphone battery status. Meanwhile, on the smartphone, the Y-Connect app also provides information on maintenance recommendations, parking location, fuel consumption, malfunctions, revs dashboard, and ranking.
Powering the new-gen MT-15 is the same liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve, 155cc fuel-injected engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system that was featured in the last-gen model. The 2022 MT-15 Version 2.0 also features a slick-shifting 6-speed gearbox that is mated with an assist and slip clutch for lighter actuation. The MT-15 Version 2.0 produces 18.4PS of peak power at 10,000rpm, with a peak torque output of 14.1Nm at 7,500rpm.
