The GSX-R 1000 is a litre-class supersport motorcycle in the GSX-R series from Suzuki. It replaced the GSX-R 1100 when originally launched in 2001. The GSX-R 1000, like most superbikes in India, is imported through the CBU route by Suzuki and is one of the most expensive Suzuki motorcycles sold in India. The GSX-R 1000 gets an inline four-cylinder 999cc 16-valve engine producing a maximum of 160bhp and 110Nm of torque. A six-speed gearbox transmits all that power to the rear wheel via a chain. As is normal for the class, traction control and ABS are standard, and selectable power outputs are available via Suzukis S-DMS system. The motorcycle is built on a twin-spar frame made of cast aluminium alloy.
The front suspension gets inverted telescopic forks and at the rear it gets a link-type monoshock, giving it 130mm ground clearance. Stopping power comes from two four-piston radially-mounted fixed calipers biting into 310mm discs at the front and a single 220mm disc at the rear. It gets 120/70 ZR17 tyre at the front and a 190/50 ZR17 tyre at the rear.It is 2045mm long, 705mm wide, 1130mm tall and has a 1450mm wheelbase. The motorcycle tips the scales at 203kg. The Suzuki GSX-R 1000 is available in two colours: Metallic Triton Blue and Pearl Mira Red. It competes against the other litre-class supersports machines like the Yamaha YZF-R1, Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja and BMW S1000RR.
