Honda sells 38 lakh two wheelers in 2021-22 financial year

The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda’s Indian subsidiary – Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), recently announced that it garnered a total sales of 3,21,343 units in the month of March 2022. The company reported that out of this exorbitant tally, 3,09,549 units were dispatched in the domestic Indian market meanwhile, it exported a total of 11,794 units to other countries. Honda also revealed that although its domestic sales increased by 8.3% month over the month of February, its export tally fell by 56.2 percent, reducing the overall sales growth to 2.8 percent over the previous month.

HMSI also announced that it has registered a YoY growth of 58 percent with a sales figure of 37,99,680 units in the FY2021-22. A total of 34,68,828 units from this figure were sold in the Indian market, while the rest of 3,30,852 units were exports.

Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director, Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. commented on the HMSI’s massive success by saying, “FY’21-22 was a special year as we celebrated 5 crore customers’ iconic landmark which is a testimony of India’s love & trust in Brand Honda. Further delighting over 1 crore customers, Honda’s Shine brand has yet again fortified its leadership in the 125cc segment.” He further added, “Unlocking HMSI’s exports capabilities in international markets, we continue to move ahead with reinforced positivity. We look forward to an upward growth trajectory for the coming fiscal year”.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. last month also announced that its cumulative exports have now breached the 30 lac units mark in its 21st year of operations. Honda two Wheelers India started exports in 2001 with its debut model Activa. While Honda’s cumulative exports crossed the historic 15 lac mark in 2016, the next 15 lac exports were added in only the last 5 years.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Mr. Atsushi Ogata – Managing Director, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Such milestones are a shining testimony of HMSI’s sustained efforts in expanding Honda’s footprint in global exports. Last year we flagged off our global engine production line at Vithalapur plant in Gujarat, thus strengthening our export capabilities further. As we make further inroads into developed markets, our reinstated focus on exports expansion takes HMSI one step closer to become a ‘Manufacturing Hub for the World’.”

Meanwhile, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director, Sales & Marketing, Honda said, “In the last two decades, Honda has delighted more than 30 lac two-wheeler customers through exports. Led by Dio Scooter, we are expanding our export portfolio including both scooters & motorcycles. To establish high quality and efficiency, matching global standard, HMSI raised a dedicated Overseas Business vertical in 2021.”
